If you think that music can't convey fear or pending doom, watch the opening scene of "Jaws" with the sound off. John Williams' soundtrack puts the "scare" into the moment the shark says "hello" to the unsuspecting swimmer.
So come join the Belmont High School Orchestra and Wind Ensemble for some spooky music at the Third Annual Family Masquerade Concert this Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. being held at the Belmont High School Auditorium on Concord Avenue. The family-oriented event is free and open to the public.
The hour-long concert (perfect for those who wish to attend a family Halloween activity prior to the start of Game 6 of the World Series) features musical tales surrounding the Halloween theme. The Wind Ensemble will perform the “Imperial March” from Star Wars and “Who is that Masked Man?”a medley of music associated with characters who wear masks from superheroes, villains, and more. The High School Orchestra will perform music from “Phantom of the Opera” and Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” (best know for being used in the penultimate scene of Walt Disney's film "Fantasia.")
In addition, there will be a special-guest appearing during the performance of “The Monster Mash.”
There is one request for those attending: come in your Halloween costume!
