UPDATE: Belmont Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning

National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 3:39 p.m.

Belmont's long hot and dry spell could come to an end with heavy rains and winds associated with severe thunderstorms this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.

At 2:45 p.m., the NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 3:39 pm in Belmont and southern Middlesex county. There has been reports of a funnel cloud in the Swampscott area. Flights into and out of Logan International Airport were delayed for half-an-hour at 2:30 p.m due to severe weather.

Southern New England, Boston and Belmont will continue under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. with an elevated risk of strong thunderstorms coming in just after 5 p.m. and again at sunset around 8 p.m., said a NWS report issued at 12:20 p.m.

There is only a 5 percent chance of damaging hail falling when the storms come through.

There is a 30 percent chance that the region will be impacted by damaging thunderstorm winds or wind gusts of 50 knots or higher.

Tonight will be wet with accumilations of between half to three-quarters of an inch of rain.
