Delays For Five Guys/Panera/Chipotle Opening?

An update on the proposals for three eateries in Waltham.

Mistakes in construction of the new Main Street Marketplace have thrown a wrinkle into the plans for a new Five Guys, Panera Bread and Chipotle.

As a result, the Waltham City Council has approved giving the three companies more time to review and receive their special fast food permits required to operate a fast food or "fast casual" eatery in Waltham.

All three stores would be located at the new shopping plaza at 1030 Main St.

City Councilor Ed Tarallo, who chairs the city's Ordinance & Rules Committee that has been reviewing the applications, said more review is needed due to the tenant's spaces being built in violation of previously approved site conditions. He did not elaborate further.

iParty and Doctors Express are already operating at the Main Street Marketplace. SuperCuts, and Massage Envy have proposed stores there.

The City Council now has to until March 31, 2013 to decide on the permits for Panera Bread and Chipotle and until Feb. 28 to decide on Five Guys's permit. The committee, however, could seek more time extensions.

Previously, Five Guys has said it wanted to open by the end of January of 2013 and Panera Bread has said it wants to open by March.

Catch - The mayor is not responsible for the actions of the city council and is not a part of the process of approving fast food permits or any other business permits. So please do not blame the mayor for Waltham's "business friendly" environment.

Maybe councilor Logan will write an explanation on Patch. He seems to be willing to communicate with the public.

Why should the city council listen to you guys!! You are only there to fund their retirement and cushy pension and keep the unions happy. Keep working and paying taxes. Oh by way, the taxes need to be increased next year because they the collection fell short. Dont worry..its for "the crumbling schools".

Any updates on this? They have until today to decide on the Five Guys permit, at least.
