August Renovation Set for Belmont Center's Starbucks

Part of nation-wide program to spruce up long-opened stores.

Coffee aficionados who congregate at location will need to find some other place to get their Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino fix for at least a week-and-a-half in August as the location undergoes extensive renovations, according to Starbucks staff.

The coffee shop at 47 Leonard St. in the heart of Belmont Center is more than 10 years old and is on a list of locations across the country to be given a near-gut rehab and a new updated look.

Customers and residents will be greeted with new wood-like chocolate-colored flooring and large coffee murals along the wall. A large supporting pillar near the serving area will be pushed back and the working area will be expanded so servers have room to work. There will be new furniture and fixtures. It is unknown at this time whether the store's capacity will increase or if the number of electrical outlets upped, said staff.

The planned renovation will occur as Belmont Center greets a new franchise in June – a five doors down Leonard Street – that will complete with the national coffee giant for Belmont's breakfast, lunch and afternoon meals.

In addition, competition for the loyalty of coffee drinkers will also come from located next to Studio Cinema on Trapelo Road as well as the town's two Dunkin' Donuts.

A renovated Starbucks will also allow the company to continue to have a noted presence in Belmont as its other location, near the corner of Common Street and Trapelo Road in Cushing Square, is likely to be closed if and when the construction of the retail/residential/parking development gets underway, at the earliest by the end of the year.
