In the running for $3,500 in annual event.

Belmont non-profits could receive up to $3,500 from $75,000 Watertown Savings Bank is giving away this year in its annual Customer Choice Awards.

In its 17th year, the Awards allows bank customers the opportunity to vote for their favorite local, non-profit organization. Every qualified non-profit that earns at least one percent of the total votes received is awarded funds. Funds are distributed according to the voting results.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to be sure your favorite organization receives some much needed funds,” said Watertown Savings Bank’s VP of Marketing Carole Katz.

Bank customers can go to the watertownsavings.com homepage to cast their vote. The online voting system lists several different organizations from each of the six towns where there are bank branches including Belmont. These are not the only eligible organizations; there is a place to “write-in” an organization’s name, if it is not already listed.

To qualify the organization must serve the local community in some way and have 501c(3) status. Religious and political organizations are ineligible.  Charitable organizations within a church community are eligible.

The deadline to vote is Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.  Those without access to a computer can pick up paper ballots at any Watertown Savings branch location.

The maximum amount distributed to any one organization is $3,500. Funds are distributed at an awards ceremony held each year in March.
