Belmont Savings Bank today announced their summer internship opportunity, providing exposure to many of the bank’s diverse departments.
Rising or graduating high school seniors are encouraged to apply for one of two spots in this six-week program, which will run from June 26 to August 16, 2012.
Applications will be accepted until June 15.
The internship program comes as local teens face their toughest test: finding a summer job. In the recent May Jobs Report, the unemployment rate for teens was a grim 24.6 percent, well above the national average.
“We hear from our customers that one of their chief concerns is ensuring their children find summer employment,” said Bob Mahoney, CEO and president of Belmont Savings.
“As a response, we have created this exciting opportunity for local students and welcome their participation in this year’s application process.”
The program is designed to give high school students, who have just completed their junior or senior year, a look at what goes on inside the many departments of a growing community bank. Interns will report directly to senior management, assisting with various tasks including direct email blasts, monitoring media coverage and community event preparation.
Students should visit www.BelmontSavings.com/intern to learn more about the program and how to apply. Applicants are encouraged to post a 90-second video on Belmont Savings’ Facebook page, or tag Belmont Savings Bank in a note explaining why they want to spend their summer vacation in the marketing department at the Bank.
The social media aspect of the process also encourages applicants to have “references” recommend them for the program – or, in the social media stratosphere, comment positively on the student’s essay after Liking Belmont Savings on Facebook. Applicants will need a minimum of two references to accompany their video or note.
The internship is a 25-hour per week six-week commitment. Compensation is a $750 stipend. Students can apply by visiting the website by June 15.
