Comments: Macy's Closing and What's Next

What will the closing of Macy's mean to Belmont; what do you see taking its place.

After a decade of rumors that it would be closing, that day finally came as Macy's announced today that it is closing the Belmont Center store after 71 years in Belmont Center.

The store, up until 2006 it was a Filene's Department Store, was the retail anchor for the town's largest retail center, bringing in customers from surrounding towns who would shop in the Center's other stores.

But with its closing comes opportunities for one or several businesses to replace the department store which was once the heart of Belmont's retail community.
