5 Things You Need to Know Today: December 14

Dickens at the Beech, basketball at the Wenner and being silly at the Benton.

1. How appropriate that the Senior Book Discussion Group will discuss "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens at 11 a.m. at the Beech Street Center (the Belmont senior center).  

2. The basketball season gets underway as Belmont High School Girls' take on arch rival Watertown at 7 p.m. at the Wenner Field House while the Boys' are playing at Watertown at the same time. 

3. There will be colorful crafts and reading for three-to-five year olds on the subject of "Fun Nature and Animal Stories" at the Benton Library starting at 10:30 a.m. Come and sit with the Benton Library staff. Learn, listen and be silly! Registration is not required.

4. Well-loved local musician Liz Buchanan performs original songs and traditional favorites beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library.

4. The Studio Cinema is screening the Steven Speilberg blockbuster "Lincoln" this week, today showings at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. over the weekend.
