5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 10

Powers at the Beech, a new Plymouth yoga session and hoopsters take on the Rockets.

1. Jazz piano and the music of Sephardic Jews will be highlighted at the Faculty Concert that will begin at 1 p.m. at the . Powers instructor and pianist Susanna Fiore will be joined by Jay Girill on acoustic bass as they play jazz standards and music composed by great jazz pianists like Bud Powell, Thelonius Monk, Fats Waller and Bill Evans.

In addition, Powers faculty members Lisle Kulbach and Jay Rosenberg will perform with their fellow 'Voices of the Turtle' ensemble member Ian Pomerantz a variety of instruments, including violin, harp, psaltery, dumbek, rebec and bouzouki as the trio presents some of the Mediterranean musical traditions of the Sephardic Jews. 

2. Drop-in on a brand new Vinyasa-style yoga class, taught by professional instructors, at the , at 9:15 a.m. All levels welcome. Please bring your own mat. Free parking on Pleasant, Leonard and in the Claflin Street Parking Lot behind Belmont Center. The positioning will take place in Gardner Hall, at the back of the church – enter the hall from Alexander Street entrance. $10 for the session. Beginning NEXT WEEK Feb. 17, childcare will available for $6 per child. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.

3. The Senior Book Discussion group will meet at 11 a.m. at the , Belmont's senior center, to discuss on of the finest anti-war novels, Erich Maria Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front," the "Private Ryan" of its time. 

4. Playtime, a drop-in, informal playgroup for toddlers and preschoolers, where both children and adults can meet new friends, will be held in the downstairs Assembly Room at the  beginning at 10:30 a.m.

5. Come see some Friday Night Hoops as your hometown Marauders host Reading High School at the ; the Girls will have a stiff challenge facing the undefeated and number 2-ranked Rockets while the Boys' will attempt to avenge a seven point loss to the current league leaders earlier in the season. The Girls' get underway at 5:30 p.m. and the Boys' hopefully around 7 p.m.
