5 Things You Need to Know Today: November 30

Classical concert at the Beech Street Center, bilingual fun at the library and sing-a-long at the Benton.

1. The Leader Bank Neighborhood Concert Series at the Beech Street Center gets underway today at 1 p.m. as pianist Andrei Baumann performs a free concert titled "The Four Seasons" featuring works of Bach, Debussy, Chopin. A Powers School of Music faculty member, Baumann is an active soloist and avid chamber musician who has performed extensively in the U.S., Europe, Canada and Venezuela. His Carnegie Hall debut occurred in 2008. The concert is free and open to the public. See a YouTube video of Baumann playing on the webpage.

4. Yoga, taught by professional instructors, is being held this morning from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St, in Gardiner Hall, at the back of the church. $10. All levels welcome just bring your own mat if you can. $6 per child for child care. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.

5. One minor casualty from Super Storm Sandy coming through Belmont was the marque being blown away from the Studio Cinema on Trapelo Road. And like many Belmont residents, the back-lit sign was the principle way I had of knowing what was currently playing. Sigh. So as a public service, here's what's on one of the few remaining single-screen movie theaters in the US: If you told me that Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law were in a movie together, well, I'm there. Even if it's just their voices. "The Rise of the Guardians" is an epic and magical animated adventure that tells the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Jack Frost – legendary characters with previously unknown extraordinary abilities – saving the world from some evil guy.
