5 Things You Need to Know Today: October 30

No school but school committee, regular trash pickup schedule and a big clean up today.

1. Belmont's six public schools are closed for a second day as traveling to and from the buildings could be a safety issue with trees and branches continuing to fall and possible wires that fell around town.

2. Street trash pickup continues on its regular schedule so Tuesday collection is today despite what Sandy's visit. Call Belmont Public Works at 617-993-2680 with any questions.

3. Back to normal: As of now (5 a.m.) the Belmont School Committee is scheduled to meet at the Chenery Middle School at 7:30 p.m.

4. State offices are scheduled to open at 10 a.m., post offices are back to regular hours and Starbucks will open at 5 a.m.

5. If you see what appears to be a wire on the ground, call the Belmont Municipal Light Department at 617-993-2812.
