Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m.

Shen Yun is a world-class Chinese culture show dedicated to promoting the traditional Chinese culture through the performing arts.  It is produced by Shen Yun Performing Arts, which has been touring around the world in the past five years. This presentation is about how to appreciate Chinese culture through Shen Yun. China is also called Shen Zhou, which means the land of the divine. Chinese people believe that the divine beings created human beings in China and passed on a divine culture to them. However this great culture was destroyed by the Chinese Communist regime. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture.

Cardio & Conditioning

Starts Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5:30 p.m.

Each class begins with low impact aerobic exercise to limber up, and gradually prepare the body for the workout to follow. We will continue moving in the first half hour to a steady pace, using all of the major muscle groups of the body. Intensity can be adjusted so that each individual stays within his or her target zone. After a gradual cool down, we will move on and focus on conditioning specific muscles (abdominals, upper body etc.) with the use of light resistance. The entire class emphasizes proper technique, improving posture, balance and coordination while getting in shape. An hour well invested! This class is not chair-based and requires movement across the floor. Cost is $20 for 6 sessions.

Writing Life and Family Stories.

Starts Monday, Jan. 9, at 1:30 p.m.

Writing life stories can be a fun and rewarding way to preserve memories for current and future generations and let them know, “the way it was then.” Learn how to get organized to write your stories. Get tips on researching your family’s history, and a list of possible topics, like the places you’ve lived or the pets you’ve loved. Hear exciting excerpts from the life stories written by other local seniors. Presenter Lynette Benton teaches writing at local senior centers, retirement communities, and adult education programs. Cost is $25 for 3 sessions. Classes meet 1/9, 1/23, and 1/30. Please sign up by Thursday, Jan. 5.
