Faulty Line Sends Part of Belmont in the Dark

Wednesday's outage effects many in Belmont.

A faulty underground cable caused a wide-spread outage in the eastern slope of Belmont Hill and between Pleasant and Cross streets Wednesday night.

The cable failed just after 10:05 p.m., Sept. 19, said Jennifer Santoro, marketing representative with the Belmont Municipal Light Department, the town's electrical utility.

It took about 75 minutes before power was restored to all customers by 11:20 p.m.

At its peak, the outage impacted about 400 home customers or about five percent of all customers.

"The majority of the effected customers – about 300 – power was restored within 1 hour; the remaining 100 customers had their power restored 15 minutes later," said Santoro.
