Five (Plus Three More) Things to Do This Weekend: Arts, Dancing and Music

1. Family Safety Day

When and where: Saturday, April 28; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cafeteria, 221 Concord Ave.

What: There will be a variety of activities and exhibits on site including bike safety, car seat installation, rail road crossing safety, computer / on line security issues, Rx Drug Take Back, and more. Participating parents will obtain fingerprints, photo, dental impression and DNA sample of their child. All of these items will be retained by the parents, not the police, for safekeeping in the event the child goes missing. Contact Lt. 2. "The Sound of Music" 

When and where: Saturday, April 28; 7:30 p.m. Belmont 's Auditorium.

What: , the second oldest community theatrical group in the country, presents "The Sound of Music”, the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, at 7:30 p.m. Harriet Friedman directs with Sandy Kendall as music director. The production is filled with talented residents and kids from town. For more information, call 617-484-6383 or go to their web site.

Cost: Tickets are $25, adults, $20, senior and those under 18. Group rate for 10 or more is $20.

3. 's annual Rummage Sale

When and where: Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St. 

What: Clean, "gently used" and pre-sorted clothing – women’s, men’s and children of all ages – household goods, toys, books, linens, shoes, CDs, jewelry and furniture. The proceeds from the sale benefits the church mission and charities.

Cost: Free.

4. Electronic Recycling Day

When and where: Saturday, April 28, 9 a.m. to noon. , 90 White St.

What: The Daniel Butler Elementary School PTA is hosting an Electronics Recycling Day, in the school parking lot off of White Street. 

Cost: $35:

• Computer monitors, laptops, CPUs, CD Rom/DVD drives, servers, speakers, computers accessories, mice, keyboards,  copy/fax/scanner/printers, DVD players, UPS (back up systems), VCRs, Walkmans, video equipment, audio equipment and cameras. 

$20:

• Wood console, projection TVs, TVs greater than 32-inches and appliances such as refrigerators and washers/dryers.

$15: 

• Microwaves, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and televisions under 32-inches. 

5. Belmont Cooperative Nursery School Concert with Ben Rudnick and Friends

When and where: Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m., , 421 Common St.

What: Ben Rudnick and Friends will be performing in concert. There will also be pizza, chocolate, balloons with prizes inside and a silent auction. This concert is a fundraiser for scholarships for local families. All proceeds go to the school's tuition scholarship fund. 

Cost: $8 per child, $10 per adult, or $20 a family maximum at the door.

6. Powers Music School Faculty Concert

When and where: Saturday, April 28, 3 p.m. , 336 Concord Ave.

What: faculty members sopranos Chelsea Basler and Jessica Cooper, trumpeter Spencer Aston, and pianist Mark McNeill presents a program of arias and songs, ranging from classical to jazz. For more information call 617-993-2870.

7. International Folk Dance Party

When and where: Saturday, April 28, 8 p.m., , 365 Belmont St.

What: The Folk Arts Center’s monthly folk dance party feature live music and all-request programming without teaching. Beginners may find that many dances can be followed by watching the leading dancers. It is not necessary to attend with a partner. Tonight's dance will feature music by Goat Rodeo. We provide punch for the refreshment table; donations of snacks are welcome.

8. Belmont Historical Society's Antique Roadshow

When and where: Sunday, April 29, 3 p.m.,, 266 Beech St.

What: The Belmont Historical Society proudly presents "Antiques Roadshow" with Society member Mary Westcott. Westcott is an estate sale specialist with Maypole Associates and is currently on staff with Kaminski Auctioneers where she was recently honored for her 20 years of service. Mary will offer appraisals of your antiques and collectibles – sorry, now stamps, coins or jewelry – up to three items per person.
