Five Things to Do This Weekend: Chicken and the Beast

Hens in the backyard, Beauty and the Beast Saturday, community seed exchange.

What: Joan Teebagy, longtime chicken keeper who has taught backyard chickens classes both in Belmont and at Codman Community Farm in Lincoln.
Belmont residents can keep up to five hens in their backyards. Learn how to raise chickens and keep them safe and healthy. Sponsored by the Belmont Food Collaborative.

2. Belmont's Performing Arts Company's

What: The final two performance of the Belmont High School Performing Arts Company's production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." A cast and crew of a hundred students performs the biggest musical in the PAC's history.

When/Where: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday, March 18.

Cost: $18 at the door, $15 for students, $5 for seniors.

What: A selection of donated books will be on sale; proceeds will benefit the library.  The Benton is open one Saturday every month.

When/Where: Noon, Saturday, March 17. .

Cost: Free.

What: Bring your extra vegetable, flower, or fruit seeds to swap for different seeds. Meet fellow gardeners just in time for Spring. Immediately following Backyard Chicken-Keeping in Belmont. Sponsored by the Belmont Food Collaborative

What: Because it's back by popular demand. LexGWAC will once again present Carbon Nation, which was described as "a must-see film...a post-partisan thriller of clean energy triumph over climate change tragedy," by Anne Kelly, a Lexington resident and Director of Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy at Ceres.

When/Where: 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 18, Cary Memorial Library, 1874 Massachusetts Ave.
