The Week in Review: Sequester Could Cut $500K from Schools, Snow Removal Funds

The Belmont School District could see up to  continues into the new fiscal year beginning July 1, according to School Superintendent Thomas Kingston, making an already possible "dire" budget process even more so. The town could also see reductions in money for public safety and transportation but those would be harder to predict as those federal monies are funneled through the state, said Town Administrator David Kale. 

The Belmont Snow removal account is about $100,000 in the black despite snow three weekends in a row. 

The Community Path committee held its first pubic meeting to solicate ideas and comments on a multipurpose byway through town.

Belmont Savings Bank is expanding its supermarket branch service by opening two new branches in Shaw's in Newton and Cambridge, part of the bank's growth strategy which has already seen the bank nearing $1 billion in assets.

US Senate candidate and US Rep Ed Markey came to Belmont to talk guns, national health and the environment.
