What's Open, Closed in Belmont on Christmas Day

Many businesses are closed today.

It use to be that the quietest day of the year was Christmas: While a few Chinese restaurants and a couple of downtown movie theaters were open, all the retail shops and eateries were closed shut as families and friends would head to church or prepare for a big Christmas dinner. You could literally walk down the main street of town and not see a car for minutes (well, at least in Weymouth.)

But just as with Thanksgiving, even on this most sacrosanct of days, a small number of businesses in Belmont are open.

While today is a national holiday – one of ten holidays recognized by the federal government – and most businesses along with federal, state and town offices are closed, there is a few places to go, especially if you're dying for coffee or need something for that heartburn you always get after the Christmas goose.

• Starbucks, at 47 Leonard St. 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Not a bad place to take the relatives or just yourself after the kids went crazy this morning. But the store in Cushing Square at 112 Trapelo Rd. will be closed for Christmas.

• Dunkin' Donuts, at 353 Trapelo Rd. and 52 Church St. 5 a.m. 'til sometime in the late afternoon/night. I must say most franchise owners discovered long ago that this was a profitable day to say open.

• CVS Pharmacy at 264 Trapelo Rd. and 60 Leonard St. Employees said they are open. Definitely call.

Franklin: You failed to mention Ohlin's Bakery... providing delicious pastry and baked goods until noon today. Ohlin's dinner rolls have been a staple at our family holiday table for decades. Kudos to the selfless bakers and counter workers! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ohlins-Bakery/113974415300257 Merry Christmas! Nan Rogers

Thanks, Nan. I know that Ohlin's was open on Thanksgiving but I went by the store yesterday and didn't see - or notice - a sign saying they were open on Christmas.
