BELMONT, MA—Belmont World Film’s Family Festival celebrates the 60th anniversary of Weston Woods Studios, a pioneer in producing award-winning films for children based on best-loved children’s books, November 23-24, at Belmont’s Studio Cinema (376 Trapelo Road) and The Beech Street Center (266 Beech St., Belmont).

Saturday’s events feature classic and new films from Weston Woods, free anniversary cake, and a special visit from award-winning father/daughter author/illustrators Ed and Rebecca Emberley, the creators behind dozens of popular children’s books including Big Green Monster, Chicken Little, The Red Hen and The
Ant and the Grasshopper
. The Emberley’s will screen the Weston Woods films
based on their books, talk about their creative process, and sign books for

their fans.
“Belmont World Film is so pleased to have Ed and Rebecca Emberley take part in our celebration of Weston Woods Studios,” said Rebecca Richards, director of Belmont World Film’s Family Festival. “ “My children and I (like so many others), have been longtime fans of the Emberley’s wonderfully exuberant books, so for Belmont World Film to now give young filmgoers and their families an opportunity to meet Ed and Rebecca in person and learn about their creative process is exciting.”



The Family Film Festival Weston Woods celebration continues Sunday, November 24, with another full day of film programs, plus free cake and a live musical performance with Ed Morgan at noon. Sunday’s events take place in Belmont at the Studio Cinema  on Trapelo Road and the Beech St. Center, 266 Beech St.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23 – Studio Cinema

10:30-11:30

AM—What’s New from Scholastic/Weston Woods Studios 
A collection of new animated films from best-loved children’s books, including the New England premieres of Bear Has a Story to Tell by Philip and Erin Stead; Lemonade in Winter by Emily Jenkins, Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds, Cloudette by Tom Lichtenheld, Hooray for Amanda and Her Alligator by Mo Willems, and The Ant and the Grasshopper by Rebecca and Ed Emberley.

12:00-1:00 PM—Mo Willems Retrospective
Animated film fun from the ever-popular author and illustrator Mo Willems, including the Knuffle Bunny Trilogy and his endearing cast of characters that children can’t seem to get enough of.

1:30-3:00

PM—SPECIAL EVENT– A Visit with Rebecca & Ed Emberley

Rebecca and Ed Emberley talk about their collaborative creative process and introduce the animated film versions of some of their best known picture books, including the Caldecott Award winning Drummer Hoff, Chicken Little, The Red Hen, and The Ant and the Grasshopper.

3:30–5:00 PM—Book Signing with Rebecca & Ed Emberley
Rebecca and Ed Emberley sign copies of their children’s books, including their new release The Crocodile and the Scorpion. Books will be available for sale on site (free admission).

1:30-2:30 PM— Recent Raves: Weston Woods Family Fest Favorites – The Beech St. Center A selection of Family Fest Favorites from Weston Woods from recent years including: Crazy Hair Day by Barney Saltzberg and Wallace’s Lists by Barbara Bottner and Gerald Kruglik, both narrated by Zach Braff; Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin; I’m Fast by Kate and Jim McMullan narrated by Stanley Tucci; Max’s Words by Kate Banks; and Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld.

PM—A Collection of Classics from Weston Woods Studios – The Beech St. Center 
Belmont World Film’s favorite selections from years past, including The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, The Wheels on the Bus by Paul Zelinsky featuring the music of the Bacon Brothers, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble by William Steig, In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak, Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert, and Antarctic Antics by Judith Serra.

Individual film program tickets are $5. Tickets to the Rebecca & Ed Emberley Retrospective are $8. The Emberley book signing and anniversary celebration are free.
