Come join us for a beautiful nature walk and poetry readings along Little River in Cambridge and Belmont. The area and inhabitants around Little River and Alewife have been inspiring birders, naturalists, and, yes, poets for generations. Come listen to readings of modern and ancient nature poetry from America, Europe, Japan, and elsewhere. Find inspiration from those whose poems express love and concern for the natural landscape where they live. Hear what local poets have written about this watershed, this silver maple forest. Come to listen, or bring your own poetic contribution to a very human dialog with and about this nearby land during our warmest season. We will stop along the way to read poems from a variety of cultures, each with their own perspective on the flowers, forest canopy, and wildlife activities of Summer. We will travel along the river, meadow, and forest habitat which is home to wildlife such as red fox, coyote, river otter, mink, cottontail rabbit, voles, snapping turtles, dragonflies, and many residential birds such as wild turkey, blue heron, red-tailed hawks, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and goldfinches.
Bring sturdy shoes and, optionally, a walking stick. The walk will take place rain or shine. If it’s wet, don’t forget your wellies.
