The Difference Between Things SLIDE LECTURE WITH CATHERINE KEHOE

Painter, Catherine Kehoe, is known for her intimate abstract constructions of sensuous color in still lifes, self portraits, and interiors. Kehoe will discuss how painting from observation involves complex visual, emotional and biological processes. Reduced to its simplest terms, beyond the image depicted, painting can be said to describe the difference between things. Kehoe asks how much information is necessary, how much is enough, and what is essential? “I seek how little information is enough, even as I experience an opposing desire to throw in every nuance I can get my hands on.”  It is the tension between those conflicting impulses that fuels her efforts in the studio.

Catherine Kehoe’s work is represented by Howard Yezerski Gallery in Boston. Kehoe studied at Yale Norfolk and holds a BFA in painting from MassArt and an MFA in painting from Boston University. She teaches painting at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and has taught drawing at Boston University School of Visual Arts.
