Belmont Lions Share of Tips to Help Those Caught Short

Nearly $2,000 given to Belmont Affordable Shelter Fund.

The dollars and change residents dropped into the tip jar when picking up their trees and wreaths this year at the annual Belmont Lions Club Christmas Tree sale will be benefiting their neighbors who suddenly find themselves short of heat or threatened with homelessness.

Belmont Lions Club President Tony Giunta recently presented nearly $2,000 from the tip jar to the Belmont Affordable Shelter Fund administrator, Roger Colton.

The Belmont Housing Trust established the fund to provide temporary, emergency financial assistance to those individuals and families who suddenly find themselves in crisis. The fund is typically used to make a utility payment, though it can also be used to make a housing payment.
