Volunteers Sought for Scharfman Memorial Run

First-time event takes place Sunday, Nov. 17. You can help.

The Foundation for Belmont Education is seeking volunteers to make the inaugural Dan Scharfman Memorial Run memorable.

So many runners and walkers have signed up to participate in first running of the event on Sunday, Nov. 17 that the FBE needs more volunteers to make it a success.

In January, 2013, Dan Scharfman, a pillar of the Belmont community, passed away suddenly. He was 55. A father of two, Belmont School Committee member and Belmont Town Meeting representative, Dan was a tireless advocate for the Belmont Public Schools.

The inaugural Dan Scharfman Memorial Run will be a fun morning of running that includes both a 5K (3.1 miles) race and a companion mile run. The proceeds from the races fund the Dan Scharfman Education Innovative Fund for the Foundation for Belmont Education’s Innovative Teaching Initiative. This initiative combines two of Dan’s passions and education priorities: professional development for teachers and school technology.
