'Hallelujah': Open Sing Handel's 'Messiah' Sunday

This year, the sing will take place at All Saints' Church on Common Street at 7:30 p.m.

Why just listen to the great choruses – including the well-known “Hallelujah” – of Handel’s "Messiah" this Christmas season?

Here is your chance to step out from the audience and be a performer.

On Sunday, Dec. 22, attendees will be given a score (or bring your own) and take part in "Messiah" Open Sing hosted by Belmont's Powers Music School.

And this year, the Sing will be held at All Saints' Church, at the corner of Clark and Common streets.

Participants will experience the thrill of singing this favorite work accompanied by a professional-level orchestra, and arias sung by some of Boston's finest soloists, led by the Powers School's Mary Beekman, artistic director for the Belmont Open Sing Series and music director of Musica Sacra for the past 30 years.

First timers are welcome. There’s no registration necessary for the Open Sing.

For the $10 admission price, participants will be provided a vocal score, a choral warm-up (in which everyone will go through some of the more difficult parts) and refreshments.

The night will include singing the work's Part 1 (the "Christmas" section) and 2 and some of Part 3.
