Sheriff Koutoujian greets Belmont parents, cadets on first day of YPSA

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian greeted parents and children in Belmont Monday morning as the youngsters prepared for the first day of the Sheriff’s Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA).  The children – or cadets – range in age from 9-11 and will spend a week in Billerica learning public safety lessons, getting to know public safety and corrections officials and working on team-building exercises.  Wednesday, the cadets will visit with their local police and fire departments.  Approximately 1,700 children are expected to participate in YPSA over an eight-week span this summer.  This week, children from Belmont are joined by those from Arlington, Medford and Somerville.
