Belmont Insanity

Albert Einstein once said; "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." A very reasonable definition in my view.

Let's see how we can apply that definition to Belmont government. From the Belmont Citizen-Herald:

"The winter’s extreme cold weather has prompted the senior center’s pipes to burst on four separate occasions over the last couple of months, putting several rooms out of commission. Since the $6 million building opened in 2009, there have been seven different occurrences of pipe bursts inside."

Seven times ? REALLY? Seven ?  I think that MORE than fits Einstein's definition.

Once, possibly a teething experience, but SEVEN smacks of utter incompetance.

There are over 5000 buildings in Belmont, private and public. Ask yourself what ANY building owner, government excepted, would do if their property froze up seven times in 6 years. In the private sector, heads would have rolled on the SECOND freeze-up...  NOT THE SEVENTH.

The real answer is that Town Government really doesn't give a damn. It's not THEIR money. NOBODY in Town government has, or ever will be, held accounbtable or get fired or suffer any consequences.

And the Selectmen will just sit up there... like the proberbial Three Monkeys... hearing no evil, seeing no evil, and speaking nothing meaningful.

This is the kind of nonsense we can expect, yet again (B C-H):

"He said the project was built using controlled construction, which provides multiple levels of oversight to ensure the project is completed to design. The building was designed by the project’s Principal Architect John Catlin of the Quincy-based John Catlin and Associates Architects, Inc."

SO WHAT??  It DOESN'T WORK !!!.  That's ALL that really matters.

It is rare that such abject FAILURE is so readily apparent, as Pols are really good at hiding their FAILURES under piles of BS, but here the utter nakedness is obvious, even to those who will not see.

Continuing: "He said Catlin signed affidavits verifying work during construction was being completed in accordance to drawings and specifications. He also said a full-time, town-hired independent clerk also ensured the work was being completed in accordance to plans."

Again, SO WHAT? All the governmental boxes were checked properly, BUT STILL IT FAILED.

Perhaps the overpaid Town Counsel should EARN his keep for once, and sue those involved for damages and costs. Oh, but that didn't turn out so well on the firehouse re-do, did it?

The ONLY solution is to hold Town Pols, from the Selectmen to the Building Committee members to individual TMMs accountable.

And, in case you've forgotten, there is a $1,000,000 FIASCO looming for the supposedly superior High School field.

ENOUGH of voting in TMMs who vote FOR the substation project, obviously without ANY real understand, except that it had solar panels on the roof. Or another TMM who was convinced that Belmont NEEDED a '21st Century Power System" but was UTTERLY CLUELESS as to the meaning of that phrase.

It's past time to clean house of incompetant Belmont Pols.
