Community Corner
Is this REALLY Community Preservation
The Community Preservation Committee's latest recommendations(pending town meeting approval) has an interesting item in the Belmont Media Center's request for $12,000 to archive videos, which seems to be part of its responsibilities in the first place.
A quick check of the Media Center's 'non-profit' tax returns shows the Belmont taxpayers already fund it to the tune of more than $400,000 annually, and they are sitting on almost $600,000 in cash.
Not only should the Town Meeting members turn down their cheeky request, but they might also look into getting half of the excess cash back (since the Media Center obviously doesn't need it) which could then fund the combined Butler School, Winn Brook Field and Housing Authority projects at no additional cost to the Belmont taxpayer.

The Community Preservation Fund ought to take a closer look at these requests, and Town Meeting members ought to require not only statements of need - but financial statements from these various organizations who have their hand out for yet even more Belmont taxpayer dollars.
