Nov. 5 – At seven minutes past 3 p.m., Engine 1 was dispatched to the corner of Cambridge and Hawthorne streets for the report of a strong odor of natural gas. The crew thought they could smell a slight odor coming from the catch basin located at the intersection. It was enough to have them request the gas company come to the scene. The crew also got inside two homes in the immediate area and found normal readings.

Suspicious device at Joey's Park

Nov. 9
– At nearly a quarter past 9 p.m., the entire company – both engines, the ladder truck, fire rescue and command cars – was sent to the Winn Brook Elementary School for a reported suspicious device. The crews maintained a safe distance from the area while Engine 2 assisted the Belmont Police with outside lighting. The police said the suspicious device was located in the new park and they requested the State Police Bomb Squad. Upon their arrival, bomb technicians from the Mass State Police requested an EMS stand-by which Belmont Fire performed. After a few minutes, the Bomb Squad removed a bag of fireworks from the scene and gave them to the Belmont Police. The trooper in charge said the threat was reduced and then deemed the scene safe.
