Belmont Police: Warming Your Car Could Be An Unwanted Invitation

Two "warming" vehicles were stolen in the past week from private driveways by thieves.

It's cold outside and so is your vehicle. So why not just run out, start it up, run back inside for 10, 15 minutes to let the car get a bit toasty before you drive off to work or your appointments.

What could be simpler? In a pair of incidents in Belmont, it couldn't simpler for car thieves also, according to Belmont Police.

In an message sent out via Twitter on Dec. 16, Belmont Police said two cars were stolen from private driveways in the past week. In both occasions, the vehicle owners started their cars to warm them up, went inside there homes for a short time. When they came back out, their cars were gone.

"We want to remind people to never leave their cars running unattended (even in their driveways). It only takes a moment to steal a car that is unlocked and running," said Belmont Police's Lt. Kristin Daley.
