Police Log: Arrest After Accident

The following information was supplied by the Belmont Police. It does not indicate a conviction.

The textbooks cost the most

Sept. 9 – At 8:11 a.m., officers were called to a Richardson Road residence for a reported breaking and entering of a vehicle. Apparently, the thief broke a side window of the late-model Jeep to gain entry. Taken from the car were headphones, a sports bag and textbooks.

Pricy pick-up
Sept. 9 – Someone left their sunglasses unattended in the Belmont Country Club. The pair, worth $200, was stolen. He wanted a police report to send to his insurance company to recoup the loss.

In the family
Sept. 12 – A mother on Moraine Street called police to say that her teenage daughter has stolen a check from her. The mother said she did not want an official report made.   

Attempted fraud
Sept. 13 – At 5:13 p.m., an Audrey Road resident told police that someone was trying to open up several credit card accounts across the country under her name. Most of the cards were for TJ Maxx and Best Buy stores. At one Best Buy, a bogus account was established and the unknown thief got a $5,000 line of credit. The person quickly charged more than $4,000 of electronics. The victim has since cancelled the account.

Accident first, arrest later

Sept. 14 – At 2:27 a.m., police from Belmont and Watertown found a 2008 Lexus at the corner of Belmont and Falmouth streets involved in a single-car accident. They also found the driver, a 22-year-old Belmont man, injured but not too seriously. He was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital. A police investigation soon led to the man being charged with operating under the influence, liquor.
