Belmont Municipal Light Ready for Sandy

Due to the anticipated severity of Hurricane Sandy, the approximent 10,000 Belmont Municipal Light Department customers may experience power interruptions and outages, Jim Palmer, BMLD general manager said today, Oct. 26 as the so-called "Franken-storm" continues up the east coast of the United States. 

Palmer said as the storm approaches, BMLD personnel will be available to handle any emergency power situation that may occur as a result of the potential hurricane force winds and heavy rain.

BMLD crews will address these emergencies as soon as it is safe to do so to minimize any inconvenience to customers, said Palmer, adding that each situation will be addressed as quickly and as safely as possible without jeopardizing line crews.

"Since BMLD crews work only in Belmont, we are confident that our crews will be ready and able to address and restore power as efficiently and quickly as possible," said Palmer.

Last year's "Halloween" snowstorm left most of Connecticut in the dark for upwards to a week while Belmont suffered only minor power outages.
