Belmont's Veteran Agent Set to Resign, Town Seeks Part-Time Replacement
John Maguranis is also Belmont's Animal Control Officer.
Belmont's Veterans Services agent John Maguranis is preparing to leave his position once the town finds a replacement for his position.
"I'll stay on the position until [the town] has someone in place because I don't want to [abandon] by fellow veterans," Maguranis told Belmont Patch Thursday, Dec. 12.
Maguranis, who is also the town's animal control officer, did not provide a reason for his decision.
The town has begun the process of finding Maguranis' replacement by advertising a part-time position "providing veterans services, administration of veterans benefits, and outreach activities in the Town of Belmont," according to a letter from Belmont Town Administrator David Kale to the compliance officer of the state's Department of Veteran's Affairs.
A 20-year veteran from the US Army, Maguranis has been the town's veterans agent since 2005. The Veterans Services agent is normally the first person a veteran initially contacts for advice and assistance.
