Call Me Jon: Hecht's (Re)Introduction to Belmont Voters

Watertown State Representative is Belmont born and bred; seeks votes in old home town.

Dear Belmont Neighbor,

On Dec. 13, you will have a chance to vote for your next State Senator. My name is Jonathan Hecht and I respectfully ask you to consider giving me your vote.

I grew up in Belmont.  I share your interest in a strong economy and a caring community.

Belmont is where I made lifelong friends, attended the public schools – Belmont High School, Class of 1976 – and learned the value of a diverse community. It’s where my father, Malcolm Hecht, Jr., who served on the Belmont School Committee, taught me what it means to be a good public servant.

I carried those lessons with me to the Watertown Town Council and the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

On the Watertown Town Council, I was the leading force behind successful changes to our municipal health insurance and pension systems. This made resources available for education, roads, and other essential services.

As the current State Representative for Watertown and West Cambridge, I continue to be a strong, independent voice for making government accountable, effective, compassionate, and trusted. I oppose gimmicks like casinos. I believe the only road to a strong economy is by rebuilding the foundations of shared prosperity:education, infrastructure, and a healthy environment.

As Vice-Chair of the Elder Affairs Committee and member of the Committee on Persons with Disabilities, I am also deeply committed to our human services programs and to helping our neighbors in need.

The Special Primary Election will be on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Over the coming weeks, I will be meeting with Belmont voters to hear about the issues that matter most to you.  Please feel free to contact me at 617-393-3501 or electhecht@gmail.com.

Thank you for your consideration in this very important election.
