Colton Forms Committee For Possible Run for Belmont Selectmen

Will be running for the board seat currently occupied by Ralph Jones.

Long-time resident and co-chair of the Belmont Energy Committee Roger Colton has formed a committee for a possible run for a seat on the Belmont Board of Selectmen.

There is one open Selectman's position on the ballot in the upcoming annual Town Election to be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

Ralph Jones, who currently holds the position, has not said officially whether he will be running for re-election to serve another three-year term. Jones has held that seat since 2008, running unopposed both times he was on the ballot.

Colton, who lives on Warwick Road with his wife, Belmont School Committee member Anne Lougee, formed the committee on Aug. 28.

For someone who is seriously thinking of running for a position on the three-member board, Colton – who is a founding partner of Fisher, Sheehan & Colton
a public finance and general economics consultancy – selected former Selectman Paul Solomon as his campaign chairman. Colton would be running for the same seat  Solomon once held from 2002 to 2008.

Colton has been active around town with the Energy Committee, promoting solar power on school buildings, pushing for reforms at Town Meeting and passage of a "stretch" bylaw targeting energy efficiency when building or renovating houses.

Colton is a season-ticket holder at Fenway Park (Section 19, Box B127, seats GG and KK) and reserves Friday games for baseball dates with his and Anne's daughter, Allison; they have been going to games since Allison was a newborn.
