Five Will Vie For Belmont School Committee Vacancy Monday

The vacancy will be filled by a vote of the Board of Selectmen and School Committee on Monday, Sept. 23.

Five residents have applied to fill the vacancy in the six-member Belmont School Committee, according to Laurie Graham, chair of the school committee.

The five candidates are Maigrid Anderson, Clifford Backman, Lisa Fiore, Elizabeth Gibson and Jamie Kang.

According to Graham, on Monday, Sept. 23, the Belmont Board of Selectmen and the School Committee will meet jointly to interview the five candidates who sent in letters asking for consideration.

Members of the School Committee and Board of Selectmen will ask the candidates a series of questions and then vote for the appointee they feel will best fill the seat during the "very busy eight months until the April Town election," said Graham.

"Each candidate brings strengths and accomplishments and I know we are all pleased that this vacancy has elicited such interest. We are looking forward to the interviews on Monday and are excited to begin this 2013-2014 school year with another colleague at the table to help us as we continue the very important work of providing the best educational experience for all of our students," said Graham.

The meeting on Monday will be held in the Selectmen’s Room of Town Hall and will also be televised by the Belmont Media Center.
