Major Stretch of Concord Avenue Closes Tuesday

A main road to Lexington from Center closed for weeks, official detour to be strictly enforced.

Major road construction on upper Concord Avenue from Pleasant to Mill streets will begin Tuesday Sept. 7.

During the construction, Concord Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Pleasant to Mill streets during construction hours starting at 8 a.m. and end around 5 p.m., depending on the crew working that day.

Police details will be positioned at Pleasant and Mill streets making sure only those with business on the street are allowed to pass.

Wellington Lane, Somerset Street and Old Concord Road are not designated as detour routes and police will be strictly enforcing this fact.

The road will be open and passable at days end and on the weekends but at the drivers own risk.

Access during construction will only be available to homeowners, students and staff of the Belmont Day School, patrons of the Belmont Hill Club and visitors to the town cemetery at Highland Meadow.

The first few weeks will be dedicated to installing a storm drain from Wellington Lane to Somerset Street. Once the storm drain is installed the roadway will be rebuilt.

Since the work will be focused on the Pleasant Street end of the road for the first week or so, homeowners should access Concord Avenue from the Mill Street end unless they live at the extreme end of Pleasant Street.  Depending on where the operation is at any specific time, residents may need to park on side streets temporarily.
