Public Meetings, Online Survey Set for New Underwood Pool Proposal

Come to meetings – one especially set aside for children – or go online to give your ideas to a new pool in Belmont.

From the first day of summer to Labor Day, the Underwood Pool – Belmont's community outdoor pool for the past century – is one of the most popular destinations in town, beloved by many residents both old and young.

But in its current threadbare condition – it requires constant maintenance and waivers from the state and local health boards just to stay open – the current pool and accompanying bath house, which opened a few weeks after Fenway Park and just after the Titanic sank in 1912, will likely be closed for good in the next few seasons if nothing is done.

That is why the town is seeking residents thoughts on its future. Or rather, the future of a new facility on the pools current location.

In the spring of 2013, the town conducted a feasibility study, and with a 2013 grant from the Belmont Community Preservation Act funds, we are now beginning the design of a new Underwood Pool facility.

The Underwood Pool Building Committee is giving the public – both adults and kids – three opportunities to put their ideas into the design of the new pool:
