Homeowners who wish to challenge the town's calculation of their real estate property have just about a month to get the paperwork in to start the process, according to the Belmont Assessors' Office.
Abatement applications for the coming fiscal year – which will be reflected in the most recent quarterly real estate tax bill out in the mail now – for real estate tax and personal property tax must be:
• received by the Assessors' Office – located on the first floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex – by Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m., or
• mailed by the Unites States Mail, First Class Postage Prepaid, to the Assessors' Office, 19 Moore Street, Belmont, MA 02478, by Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m., as shown by a postmark made by the United States Postal Service.
