Rogers Wins State Rep Race in Close Decision over Hegarty

Despite Hegarty winning Belmont, Rogers takes Arlington and Cambridge to squeak into seat.

took neutral Arlington big and won his hometown precincts in Cambridge by a comfortable margin to negate 's winning one of every two votes in Belmont to win the Democrat primary race by less than 200 votes of nearly 5,000 cast to replace Will Brownsberger as state representative of the 24th Middlesex District.

Belmont's trailed the two front runners, garnering less than 1,000 votes in an election that emphasized retail campaigning; knocking on doors, attending meetings and holding signs.

The victory for the first-time candidate from Cambridge sets up a race between him and two Belmont residents in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 6; Republican Tomi Olson and Independent Jim Gammill.
