Special US Congressional Primary Election Set for Oct. 15

It will be 13 weeks of campaigning before the party primaries in the Race of the Fifth.

With the swearing in of Edward Markey as US Senator set for this morning, July 16, in Washington, Gov. Deval Patrick has set the dates for the primary and general special elections to select a replacement for Markey as US Representative for the 5th Congressional district which includes Belmont.

And the fall foliage will be at its peak autumn color when Belmont goes to the polls as Patrick set the party primary elections for Tuesday, Oct. 15 – 91 days from today – and the general election Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Among the Democratic candidates running for the seat is Belmont resident and current State Sen. Will Brownsberger.

In addition, Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, Milford state Sen. Katherine Clark, Medford state Rep. Carl Sciortino and Framingham state Sen. Karen Spilka are also  candidates for the Democratic Party nomination.
