Update: Save the Date; Special Town Meeting at the Chenery Monday, Nov. 4

Selectmen will finalize dates, times and agenda at its Sept. 23 meeting.

It is anticipated that the Board of Selectmen will formally call a Special Town Meeting for Monday, Nov. 4, at the Chenery Middle School at their scheduled meeting next week, according to Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman. 

Including the date, the Board is working with the Town’s boards, committees and commissions on three possible warrant articles: 

• Funding for the renovation of the Harris Field at Belmont High School

• A demolition delay general bylaw; and 

• A residential snow removal general bylaw.

Cushman said the Selectmen are expect to vote whether to hold the Special Town Meeting at their scheduled public meeting on Monday, Sept. 23 and at that time will set the dates for later that week to open and close the Warrant (agenda) for the meeting.  

A Citizen Petition to add an article to the Warrant must be submitted to the Town Clerk by the deadline voted by the Selectmen;  a minimum of 100 certified signatures of registered Belmont voters and the exact language of the Warrant Article are required at time of submission.

Summary of Dates:

Reserved Date for Special Town Meeting: Monday Nov. 4, at 7 pm

Additional Reserved Date (if required): Wednesday, Nov. 6

Reserved Location: Chenery Middle School auditorium

Warrant for Special Town Meeting: Will open and close during the week of Sept. 23, as determined by Board of Selectmen. Citizen petitions must be submitted to the Town Clerk by the close of the warrant containing at least 100 signatures for certification by Cushman and exact language of desired article.

A formal notice will be issued after the Board of Selectmen vote, said Cushman.
