Belmont House of the Week: The Home That Help Change the Town's Bylaws - 111 Waverley St. #1

Nearly a million dollars for a townhouse and you still have to share a parking garage.

One of the two new structures at 111 Waverley is a large townhouse jerry rigged with its twin on a plot where once stood an unloved, modern single-family that resembled a bunker lying deep into the earth.

The sale and demolition of the original building this time last year to be replaced by a pair of large, multi-floor "mega" condos – the two structures have about three times the square-footage of the original – was one example of several similar "tear-downs" to make way for multiple units of new top dollar construction that led Waverley neighborhood residents to submit an article before the annual Town Meeting in June to place and later pass a one-year moratorium on the destruction of residential homes to be replaced by larger residences.

And today, the public will get a close up look into the townhouses that help changed the town's bylaws. It's large – more square footage than most single-family homes in Belmont and especially the neighborhood – and expensive, nearly a million dollars  will give you the opportunity to live on Waverley Road with a view of the commuter rail tracks.

Here is what the broker says about the building:

"Stunning new townhome with all the bells and whistles including spacious rooms and an open concept floor plan. This unique property has an abundance of detailed moldings, volume ceilings, large cook's kitchen, fireplace family room, recessed lighting, hardwood floors, luxurious bathrooms, walk-up attic and three-car garage. Making this home a must have."

The first open house is today, Sunday, Sept. 16, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
