CHAMPIONS! Belmont Girls Soccer Take Div. II North Crown

Defeat Wilmington 1-0 on a first-half goal; will meet Medfield in Braintree on Wednesday.

A first half goal by senior midfielder Corrine Ognibene was all Belmont needed as they hung on to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Wilmington High School to capture the Division II North sectional championships for the second time in three years today, Monday, Nov. 12 at Lynn's Manning Field.

Belmont will meet Medfield in the Eastern Mass. Championships in Braintree at 5:30 Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Medfield defeated Belmont, 1-0, in the Eastern finals two years ago after the Marauders defeated Danvers in the North sectionals in 2010.

"It was all instinct," said Ognibene of her goal. The senior sent the ball skyward from 30 meters from the goal. The ball then was caught in the strong breeze fooling Wilmington's goalkeeper Kim Woods who saw the ball drift away from her hands and into the net at the 23 minute mark.

"It was a complete team effort," said head coach Paul Graham.
