Field Hockey Tame Red Devils, Inching Towards Post Season

1-0 win puts Marauders at .500 for the season at 6-6-0.

One measure of how well a field hockey team is playing is counting the number of penalty corners they are awarded by the referees after a defending team is punished for an infraction inside the 16-yard scoring circle.

Under the lights at home on Harris Field on Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Belmont High Field Hockey team was on top of their game, taking 21 corner over the course of game while surrendering a single corner to Burlington High School Red Devils.

And that statistical dominance was evident in the play on the pitch as Belmont kept play in the Red Devils end of the field, allowing Burlington to cross the midfield line twice in the second half.

But it took a tip in from increasing scoring threat Haley Fay with six minutes remaining in the first half to secure the 1-0 Belmont win as Burlington's goalie Michaela Mazure – one of the best goalkeepers in the Middlesex League – made several outstanding saves from in close against the Marauders.

The win brings Belmont back to .500 at 6-6-0. With six games remaining, Belmont will need to net three wins to secure a playoff spot for this young team.
