Heartbreak: Belmont Field Hockey Falls to Watertown in North Finals

Goal in final two minutes ends Marauders historic run in MIAA tournament play.

In a heartbreaking loss, the Belmont High School Field Hockey team saw defending state champions and Middlesex League archrival Watertown High School score with less than two minutes to play to defeat the Marauders, 2-1, in the MIAA Division 2 North Championships today, Nov. 12, in North Andover.

Watertown senior Lauren Giordano scooped in a rebound off Belmont senior Goalkeeper Shannon Reynolds with a minute and 48 second remaining in the second half after the Marauders held the edge in play for most of the final 30 minutes.

"You will be the best team they meet in this entire tournament," said Belmont Head Coach Jessica Smith after the game. "You should be proud of that."
