Not since the second game of the season, a 7-2 win against Stoneham, has the Belmont High School Girls' Ice Hockey team experienced a feeling like it did coming off the ice after their match against Needham High School Monday, Jan 28.
And that is being on the right side of a blow out.
Six different skaters scored Marauder's six goals and 10 players earned at least one point as Belmont (4-6-1) defeated an under-manned Needham (3-9-1), 6-1, in a non-league meeting. Belmont scored twice in the first and four times in the second to give the Marauders their second win in their last three games.
Belmont scored early as Alexandra Cellucci (1 goal, 2 assists) netted the first goal a minute and 49 second into the game as the senior co-captain mid-range shot eluded Rocket goalie Dana Cambell who fronted a Needham team that brought 12 skaters to Belmont.
Joining Cellucci in the Belmont goal column included Suzanne Noone, Serena Nally, Pauline Ayers, Madison Bailey and sophomore Marsia Puma who was brought up from the junior varsity.
Catherine Noone and Casey Shea had two assists while Erin McLaughlin, Christy Moore and Kendel Brown each assisted on a goal.
Next up for Belmont is playing at neighbor Arlington High Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m.
