The average teacher salary in the Belmont Public Schools was $79,244 in 2013, according to a new report by Boston Business Journal.

In the report, Belmont’s average salary ranks 36th of the 328 Massachusetts districts listed. Belmont’s average salary was also about $10,000 higher than the state median of $69,000.

Many school districts have seen average teacher pay jump in recent years, while others have made cuts.”

The highest and lowest average teacher salaries in Massachusetts:

1. Concord-Carlisle, $95,947
2. Lincoln-Sudbury, 94,087

Median: $69,000

However the Belmont salaries compare to other towns, the public sector unions, mainly the teachers, are THE problem in Belmont. Since about 2000, the salary increases have EXCEEDED 2 1/2 % year over year. In fact, any specific teacher is getting more like an over 6% annual pay increase, if you add up the annual step-up, plus the year-over-year increase in each step. This is a FACT that is never admitted by either union or Town officials. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From memory, salaries are about 80% of the school budget, and the schools get about 58% of the Town levy. That works out to an ANNUAL roughly 2.75 % increase in the levy, JUST TO MEET THE UNION PAY INCREASES. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To use a phrase so popular among some: THIS IS UNSUSTAINABLE
