Performing Arts Company's 'King Stag' Opens Thursday

Show runs through Saturday, Nov. 9, curtain rises at 7 p.m.

The Belmont High School Performing Arts Company presents Carlo Gozzi’s "The King
Stag," a Renaissance Commedia Dell’Arte incorporating improvisation, puppetry, physical comedy and clowning bear in a tale of love, deception and trickery.

The play follows King Deramo as he searches for a worthy bride with the help of a magic statue who can determine whether or not a woman’s feelings are true and sincere. Two of the young women put forth are the daughters of The King’s Ministers, both hoping to be father to a future queen. In the show’s pivotal plot point, the evil Minister Tartaglia transforms the King into the body of a stag as a
part of his quest for power. The plot continues as King Deramo struggles to find a way to restore normalcy to his kingdom and prevent Tartaglia from taking control.

Performances are Nov. 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. in the Belmont High School Auditorium.

Tickets are available at the door at $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Champions Sports or online at ticketstage.com for $12, and are free for Belmont Public Schools staff and 8th grade students from Chenery Middle School upon reservation via email at tickets@bhs-pac.org.
