Belmont High Students Spending Valentine's Day in Their PJs

Next week on St. Valentine Day, the halls and classrooms at Belmont High School will be filled with students who will come to school wearing their pajamas.

No, they aren't love-sick teenagers who forgot to dress for school. Once again, Belmont High School is participating in the PJ Drive for Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization in Brighton, which provides gently-used clothes and gear for needy Massachusetts children.

On Feb. 14, the school will hold its annual “Pajamarama,” when students and staff wear PJs in exchange for a donation. In addition, local shop owners contribute door prizes for participating students. In addition, the High School coordinate similar PJ days in other schools. Later in the year, the students are hoping to again hold a car wash to benefit Cradles to Crayons so stay tuned.

For this drive, sponsored by the Boston Bruins, the Belmontian Club is collecting both monetary donations and pairs of new pj’s for newborns to toddlers up to 18 months. 

If you would like to help, please drop off the pj’s in the main office. Monetary donations (checks made out to Cradles to Crayons) may either be brought to the office or mailed to: Alice Melnikoff, Belmont High School, 221 Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA  02478.

Special merchant promotion to benefit Cradles to Crayons

Belmont-based Above and Beyond Pet Services is sponsoring a promotion for the entire month of February in support of the drive. They provide professional pet sitting – cats, dogs, and exotics – and dog walking services to the Belmont community and surrounding areas. The company is bonded, insured, and American Red Cross Pet First Aid and CPR trained. Reviews are on Angie’s List and Yelp.

• Pet Sitting Services Only or Dog Walking Services (Part-time, less than five walks a week) Cradles to Crayons receives $15 at signing of contracted services.

• Dog Walking Services (Full week, five walks a week) Cradles to Crayons receives $50 after signing of three months (or more) of contracted services.

To take advantage of the promotion, you must mention Cradles to Crayons when you book your services.
