In another decisive win, the Belmont High School Softball team won their third straight game with a 18-6 victory over North Middlesex Regional in six innings Monday, April 9, giving Head Coach Stacie Marino her best season start in her Belmont career.
Sophomore left fielder Micaela McKay hit two triples and drove in four runs as Erin Reilly continues her perfect season with three victories, collecting with seven strike outs and benefiting from error-less play behind her led by defensive stalwart junior shortstop Daphne Assimakopolous.
Senior catcher Larisa Chapa stole four bases in a two singles, one RBI day, while junior first base Sarah Kulbersh collected an RBI with a single in the second inning.
Last Thursday, the Marauders collected their second victory in the season and against Wayland beating the Warriors, 8-5, in a one-sided game until Wayland rallied late in the seventh, scoring three runs with two outs.
Reilly pitched another complete game. Defensively, the majority of the outs were made by infielders Eleanor Gaumer at second base, shortstop Assimakopoulos and Jodi Carter at third base with the always dependable Kulbersh at first base.
In two top defensive plays, Stacey Brandt had a running diving catch in center field for an out in the fifth inning while a long throw by McKay and a great tag by Carter at third base in the sixth inning prevented a Wayland player from stretching a double into a triple.
Offensively, Chapa went two for three with four RBIs on two singles, junior Katlyn Noonan was four for five with four singles and a pair of RBIs, and junior DP Frances Mooney went three for four with two singles and a bunt for a RBI.
The Marauders next home games are Thursday, April 12 vs Stoneham at 3:45 p.m. and Tuesday, April 17 vs Austin Prep at 10 a.m.
