Vogt Receives Excellence in Emergency Medicine at Graduation, Frick in France

Three High School students earn scholarships from Cambridge Savings, UMass-Lowell graduates.

Belmont's Christopher Tyler Vogt, D.O., received the Excellence in Emergency Medicine Award during the University of Pikeville - Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) graduation banquet held this month.

The award was sponsored by the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and awarded for excellence in emergency medicine and presented by William T. Betz, senior associate dean for osteopathic medical education at KYCOM.

Vogt was among the newest physicians in KYCOM’s graduating class of 2012.

Three High School grads benefit from Cambridge Savings scholarships

Cambridge Savings Bank announced earlier this month that Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation has awarded scholarships to three Belmont High School seniors through the 2012 Kevin J. Fitzgerald Scholarship Program, which awarded a total of $65,000 to graduating seniors in Eastern Massachusetts this year.

This year’s scholarship winners are Anisa Hawley, Raveena Kothare, and Rebecca Powers.

Anisa will major in Biology at McGill University; Raveena will study Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; and Rebecca plans to major in Civil Engineering at Cornell University in the fall.

Now in its 21st year, the Kevin J. Fitzgerald Scholarship Program has awarded more than $815,000 to graduating seniors in the communities Cambridge Savings Bank serves. The program typically awards two $2,500 scholarships to local graduating seniors in each community, one for a traditional four-year program, and a second for a two-year technical/vocational or community college program.

Frick Immersed in France

Belmont's Michael Frick, a sophomore at Boston College High School, recently participated in Boston College High School’s Summer Immersion Program in Lyon, France.

Michael spent three weeks living with a French family, taking classes at Centre Saint Marc, the Jesuit High School of Lyon, and learning of the city’s rich history which dates back to antiquity.

The trip culminated with a three-day excursion to Paris where Michael toured such historical monuments as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Chateau of Versailles.

The French Summer Institute is part of Boston College High School’s Global Education Program, which also includes programs in Argentina, China and Ireland.

Six residents graduate from UMass Lowell

A record number of graduates – 2900 – were presented with diplomas at UMass Lowell’s 2012 Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 26 at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell.

The following Belmont students received diplomas:
 
Glenn Mwangale Imboywa, Orson Oriol, Franco S Perrone, Thomas S Prendergast, Djalel Sadi and Miriam Rebecca Weil.
